Spoiled by Davina's endless complaining August 20, 2008 First of all, the positive - the instructors on these videos are great. They're encouraging and enthusiastic, and the routines are fun and challenging.
In fact, it'd be a five-star review if it weren't for Davina's dreadful behaviour. She's like an attention-seeking child, running around, complaining, gurning, pulling faces, showing off...it's all rather demotivating.
I'd expect her to cheer the viewer on, instead she's looking for affirmation herself. This is enjoyable for hard-core Davina fans only.
Power of 3 - Great August 12, 2008 I bought this after I bought the High Energy Five.
The Power Of 3 is brilliant. I usually do it from start to finish (lasts about an hour) with the warm up and cool down.
The first section is the legs and bums section. This I find, is excellent and definately works. There are so many squats in there, if done regularly, you will have legs and buns of steel. It's hard to begin with, especially if you are new to excercise, but keep up with it. The results are worth it.
The next section is the upper body, my favourite. You need weights for this. This really works the upper body hard, again, stick with it. The intervals are sure to help with fat burning as there is no point in toning and cutting muscle if it is covered with fat. Davina, Mark and Jackie are so down to earth, it makes you feel at ease.
The abs section in this DVD is better than the High Energy Five, works them more. You also get a bums section in this and *ouch* sure works! Again, just stick with it and you will get results.
Make sure you do the warm up and cool down....I was incredibly uncomfortable the day after when I didn't do the cool down...not a good idea.
If you dont have the time for the whole DVD, break it down into sections!
The extra bits, Davina on Clothes, Food etc...is nice too have too.
The only reason I gave this 4 out of 5 was because some of the sections in the 30 minute work outs let this down. Just didnt seem to get a good enough work out, or maybe I am becoming an excercise junkie, who knows!!
All in all, I recommend this one too, Davina's DVDs are fantastic and you never feel 'out of place', she's so 'girl next door', and with a body like hers, makes you more determined to do that work out, no matter what's on TV!!
You won't be disappointed!
Not bad but...... July 30, 2008 I bought this box-set about a week ago and have given both DVD's a couple of run throughs so far. The power of 3 is harder work - about an hour with a mixture of leg, arm, abs and cardio. It does make you sweat, however I prefer higher intensity workouts (used to Billy Blanks Tae Bo which is higher speed and very cardio based). The lunge and squat section felt fine when I was doing it, but by god my legs hurt the day after! I couldn't even sit down without lowering myself gingerly! This is a good thing though - I like pain it shows its working !
I'm not so impressed by the 3 30 min workout DVD. They seem very short and there is not enough cardio at all. I'm not convinced about the 1 min interval sections to boost your heartbeat. Why not include faster movements that keep your heart rate up throughout the workout like Billy Blanks does? The cardio box section I was least impressed with. As said previously I am a fan of Tae Bo and this is a pale imitation. The reps are too short and with too many breaks in between - a bit pointless really.
Overall these two DVD's are quite fun to workout to, but I would say they were better for beginners rather than those used to higher intensity workouts.
I'm very impressed. June 30, 2008 This was my first ever fitness DVD purchase & I'm impressed. The box set is good value as it gives you lots of options. One dvd is a program that takes an hour, ideal for weekends. The 2nd DVD has 3 different 30 min workouts, ideal for during the week [before work in my case]. I alternate between the 30 min Pump & 30 min Box exercise. The Core Stability program doesn't do anything for me. Maybe I need to give it another go. The moves are easy to follow & you really feel that you have had a workout. Note: You need a mat & free weights to get the best out of the workouts.
I was so impressed that I have since purchased Davina High Energy Five. hopefully it will be just as good.
Good fun, can feel it working, but let down by the instructors May 26, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I think Davina is great and she certainly keeps you smiling throughout her DVD. I have done both DVDs now, and you can certainly feel the exercises working. The squats really do hurt but there are a great range of exercises to do, targetting various areas of the body. I really like the interval training too. However, for me, the DVD is let down by the instructing. Rather than explaining the moves / steps, they just switch to the next one. This will be great once you've done the routines quite a few times but it will be hard to get into if you are new to aerobics. Having said this, I get the feeling the pain will be more than worth it! Davina's eating plan is good too
