what a shame November 30, 2008 I have read all of Martina Cole's books and, up until her last, Faces, I have always found them an excellent read but sadly 'The Business' is actually the worse of them all.
The whole story could have been written in half the number of pages. Really boring.
Glad I borrowed the from the library and didn't spend money on it.
I agree with other reviewers, it feels as if Martina has given up trying as she knows that her name will sell the book.
I for one won't bother with the next one.
Disappointed ! November 28, 2008 This was so boring - Martina repeated the same thing over and over and over - the first 40 pages or so were good but it all went horribly wrong after that - I struggled to finish it - my mum and daughter have it and agree with me - they have it from the library unlike me who paid good money for it - wish I had waited - I had read an excellent book called Sadie before this and thought maybe that was why I hadn't enjoyed it as much but looking at the other reviews can see I am not the only one disappointed - I must say though I did enjoy the book Faces so much so I could of read it again -did not want that to finish but with this one was glad to see the back of it !
another BIG let down November 25, 2008 What a repetetive load of rubbish!let down again after a poor last book,i thought this one would be better, but it's worse!a waste of my time reading it.and my money.
Absolute shame November 22, 2008 I used to be able to read a Martina Cole in just 2 days. I'm now 2 weeks into this book and only on page 281. I am so bored, it's unbelivable. I will finish this book as I've never not finished one of hers but I couldn't care less what happens to the dreadful Imelda, whether she lives or dies, straightens herself out or is brutally murdered. I DON'T CARE!!
It must be hard for an author, full of some really good ideas, get their break with some fabulous books and becomes a number one seller. I assume they are then under contract and have to churn out a book a year. I imagine that once the ideas dry up and because they have deadlines to meet, perhaps writing becomes more of a chore and less of a pleasure.
I'd rather wait 2 years and have a great Martina Cole than the rubbish she has churned out these last 3 years.
She's the only author who's books I keep, lining my bookshelf, I sell all the rest on Amazon. Only the first few books are read and re-read. The ones in the middle might get read again someday, the last few are just there for decoration and will no doubt gather dust.
Another of my favourite authors died this year, I mourn her loss. I mourn the loss of Martina Cole too and she's very much alive!
Oh well, let's see what page 282 brings............!
Not one of her best November 13, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I expected much, much more from the fabulous Martina but sadly this one let me down! I have been an avid fan of hers from the start. I found that I couldn't sympathise with most of the characters as I simply didn't like them!!! Let's hope Martina's next book will return in the same vein as her originals! On a brighter note i have just discovered a new author J Lou McCartney who wrote De Marco Empire - full of mafia style villains and edge of the seat stuff ...
