This book by Simon Stafford is a disappointment. There is a great deal of useful material in it, but the prose style is only marginally more readable than the manual. The hints and tips really are useful, and most of what you could possibly want to know about the D300 is between the covers somewhere - but that can also be said of the manual.
The majority of the photo illustrations (as opposed to the photos of camera parts) bear no relationship whatever to the captions referring to them. And whose idea was it to use black and white images to illustrate so many points about the colour capabilities of the camera?
The book is plagued by niggling typos of the kind that evade the spell-checker but not the editor (or author) who cares about the final product - 'and' for 'an', 'you' for 'your', 'affect' for 'effect', 'taught' for 'taut' and so on.
Physically, the book is difficult to handle - it is unwilling to open to a comfortable extent, and you just know that if you push it it will fall apart.
