Great fun for all ages November 16, 2008 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I have been waiting for this game since I played on Rock Band on the Wii at a friends. I wasn't that impressed and had heard great things about GHWT so have been patiently waiting for over 6 weeks for this to arrive. I am a competent 'medium' level guitar player but I was really looking forward to the drum kit like I guess most people were. Comparing GHWT drums to the RB drums there is an obvious difference in quality and I much prefer having the high-hat and cymbol and only 3 pads instead of RB's four - it's actually quite hard to hit the correct colour without looking down when there's four of them!
Having had the first evening to get myself acquainted with the game I had my parents over for the second evening. They are 62 and 60 years old and although they're young at heart they have struggled to play previous GH games because they can never get the timing right as well as worrying about what colour fret to press. The great thing about GHWT is the new 'beginner' level in which the gamer only has to hit the notes at the right time but they can play any note. My mum loved playing the bass with the same button held down for the whole song. Meanwhile, my dad was on drums and while he started off on beginner he was soon rocking away on 'easy' level!
What was intended to be 30mins so see my new 'toy' ended up being 2 hours with my mum on bass, my dad on drums, me on guitar and my husband singing. It was fabulous fun and my dad wants to come back and do it again!
I don't really need to say any more!

Disappointing November 15, 2008 0 out of 6 found this review helpful
I'm new to Guitar hero, but it looked a lot of fun, especially with the drum kit, which is the real reason I bought this.
It's really simple to set up, and the drum kit is sturdy, and will take some hammering, but for me that's where the good news ends. Playing the drums feels pretty much like banging on a couple of saucepans. The thud when you hit the pads is louder than the music itself (unless you turn your TV up very loud) and of course whichever pad you're hitting the sound of the thud is the same, so it didn't really feel as good as I thought it might. Perhaps I was expecting too much, after all it's not a real drum kit!
It was more fun playing the guitar, it's a decent size, and has a bit of weight to it as well, so feels more real!
The studio option is a nice little aside, but it's very time consuming and fiddly to create anything that's any good, and in the end just gets frustrating.
If you love Guitar Hero and are thinking about buying this for the drum kit, I'd say don't bother. It was the biggest selling point for me, but it's also the biggest disappointment.
OMG I'm a drummer baby YEAH!!! November 15, 2008 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
Got the band bundle last night and well what can I say... it fookin' rocks!!!
Ok the good points: Extremely easy to set up, I was up and running in a couple of minutes drumming to Eye of the Tiger! The drum set is well built, and durable.. doesn't feel as though its going to break and the game actively wants you to hit the pad harder for a better sound.
The guitar is bigger, comfortable and with the normal 5 buttons (red, yellow, blue, green & orange) plus fret buttons for harder, faster tunes... It's easy to activate the "star power" button as its always under your palm and with a longer slide bar, whammying has never been so easy!
The microphone is very responsive and picks up the tone of your voice easily so you can "try" to keep in tune. Had no problems whatsoever with the wireless connection so all in all worth the extra cash for the package.
The song list is amazing with tastes for everybody from Smashing Pumpkins, Foo Fighters, Jimmi Hendrix to Oasis, Blondie and Michael Jackson's Beat It... (which is brilliant on base by the way!)..
Ok now for the band points: There aren't any...!
A must buy for any guitar hero lover! Beg the wife, husband, girlfriend, boyfriend or kids and all enjoy in time for christmas!!!
