Nearly there . . . November 17, 2008 Simple Facts. It's better that 2008. No single player lag. Online still lags, it just depends on luck. Recent UPDATE means ALL TRANSFERS are now FIXED to the latest.
I bought this on the 22nd Oct for 40, thank you amazon for discounting it so much after i bought it!
Honest Review - Really Good Game. November 12, 2008 I really like it. The game engine is very similar to last year. A lot of improvements have been made. The game has slowed down a fair bit which makes it far more realistic but not as pulsating. Not sure if this is a good thing or not... Time will tell. The biggest improvement is the look of the game. Champions League mode is visually fantastic. You really feel as if you are in the CL. The variety of play and goals you can score will stop this game from getting repetitive and will keep me entertained probably until the next one comes out. Overall, this is a really good game. After reading some of the reviews I wasn't sure but I'm really glad I bought the game. I liked last years edition, if you didn't this wont be for you.
PES 2009 November 12, 2008 The Champions League and Become a Legend are the main differences in this and last years offering. The game play is slower, which I think is actually more realistic, although a lot of gamers complain about this. Why only a three star? In the good old days the graphics were poor but the game was great, the PES series has lost this for about the last four versions, slowly but surely you have to think of it as less like a real football game and just run with your fast guys. I play two player a lot with mates, and they all agree, in the old days you had to play football, now you just run!!! Get back to football Konami, please!
Not Bad .. but not quite there yet November 10, 2008 October a great month .. summer is a distant memory and x factor is in full swing (booo).. there used to be one redeeming feature of this travesty of a month . a new pro evo release! Now quite a bit has been said about the travesty that was PES 2008 so i won't go there again. However i was one of the many that was looking forward to the release of this edition and not to sound like a grumpy old man (34 is that old??) konami have failed to deliver yet again. As has been mentioned there have been improvements graphicaly (no more plastic skin tones), addition of new games modes (champions league, legend) and the ability to add your own music. Why am i not happy then i hear you cry - 1. Its one thing not having the official license for team names etc, but to not have the correct teams as transfer deadline day is just criminal! Why not just release it in August then!! lol 2. The ghost player effect - some people have called it dodgy defending but i prefer my term! When the likes of Johnathon Greeniong are nut megging Rio Ferdinand .. and i use the term nutmeg grudgingly as its more a case of a player ghosting through another player! 3. Shocking AI - players tend to run about like mad hatters no matter what you do in the team setup!! lol I must have a great sense of humour cos it does delight me somewhat to seeing my centre back in the opponents penalty box next to my centre forward and then not botehring to run back! 4. Talking of running back - you take a shot, u miss, the crowd gasps, the opponents keeper places the ball for a goal kick .. thjen your players decide .. we better get into position!! lol That is hilarious.. playground stuff! 5. Crossing the ball is soooo sloooow 90% of the time no matter how much space your player is in! 6. The random switching of players - the player that is closest to the ball .. i don't think so konami.. i won't even go into what happend to me when a harmless pass was played by my opponent inbetween central defender and keeper.. lets just say it looked like a breakdancing contest that the little kid off britains got talent would have been proud of! Haven't tried the online game yet .. more out of fear of the last mishmash that was 2008. lol
Anyway to summarise an ok football game that could have been a lot better with some decent testing to remove some bugs and if someone just took a look back to what made pro evo great in the first place .. i will even lend them my copy of Pro Evo 5.. arguably the best in the series so far. Heres hoping that October 2010 will be a great month... if not FIFA here i come!
So frustrating.........RIP Pro Evo November 9, 2008 Pro Evo must be the only game that no matter how poor it is, we always come back for more. I've owned all the Pro Evo's and this one is the final nail in the coffin. It is incredibly frustrating, the goalkeepers are worse, if possible, and ignore the ball a lot?!! Player selection is limited and very annoying. The passing system is awful. The players are sluggish and slow to react, if they do at all, and decide to wander out of position. Scoring is harder, which isn't so bad, however it would be harder seeing as it's like kicking a beach ball that always flies sky high.
The fouls, oh the fouls. You CANT slide in. The players seem to fall over in ridiculous ways and you always get booked even if the opposing player doesnt even trip and carries on running. You cant get the ball back against the computer.
However, online play is better, but they seem to have slowed the game down to sort the old issues out. The issues mentioned above are even worse online though.
Konami have been very sloppy not to have the team transfers updated, there is no excuse for this. I wont comment on the menu's, music and commentary, we all know how laughable it is.
Overall this game is incredibly frustrating, no matter how long you play it for hoping for it to improve. Ive had enough of forgiving the faults of the Pro Evo's, and can't be bothered with it anymore. The standard of the PS3's games is far beyond this, will someone please get hold of Konami and sort them out.
