We got this game last saturday and rushed home to play it,we sold it on e bay 4 days ago (wednesday)this game was nothing compared to wii sports and we were very disappointed in it. The graphics are terrible. We paid 30 for it as well gutted!!! One to avoid.
A boring and very unatmospheric gaming experience. June 20, 2008 12 out of 13 found this review helpful
This game is a selection of sports mini games that are very much inferior to Wii sports. None of the games are exciting to play and with the absence of cheering crowds egging you on it feels like there's not much point in making an effort to win. The circuit races follow very plain routes with very bare environmental decoration, the players in the football seem like they're running through treacle. The Curling is incredibly tedious. In the Ice Skating you use the nunchuck to skate and you twist the remote to perform spins and jumps, admittedly this control system works very well but any potential for freedom of expression is quickly snatched away by the rigid requirement that you must follow a pre-set path and do pre-set jumps in a pre-set order. The Basketball also has quite a good control system but the absence of crowd noise, shoe squeaks and a commentary dissolves the fun out of it. Personally I prefer targets and something to aim for in Sports games and this game provides nothing of that. I would not recommend this game but I would look for more well designed, graphically realistic and involving titles that use some of the control methods demonstrated in Sports Island.
Good family fun! June 15, 2008 8 out of 9 found this review helpful
OKay, I will admit this isn't Wii Sports 2 but Sports Island seems good enough to hold us over until Sports 2 arrives - if and when it does. I got this for my husband for Father's Day and we've spent a good portion of the day playing it and having lots of fun. The snowboarding, motorcyling and go carts are very similar but they are fast and it is great fun to race each other in these games. The Archery is good as is the ice skating....really all the games are enjoyable. They are short and fairly simple but you can adjust each game to beginner, normal or advanced levels. We haven't had any problems with the controls being slow and the animation, while simple, is really clear and colorful. Our 4 year old is getting there with the controls and this is the type of game for casual players who just want to have some fun and some laughs - and one that the whole family can enjoy.
Not the sequel to Wii Sports June 12, 2008 5 out of 7 found this review helpful
After having purchased a number of great Wii games, I thought I would settle for the latest title to my collection - Sports Island. The number of sporting events grabbed my attention and the screenshots looked very good. I honestly thought this was the sequel to Wii Sports. Once I received the disc, I popped it into the Wii and everything just went down hill. The menus are plain horrible. The layouts and the colour schemes are unimaginative and dull. As for gameplay - very poor. I found that the game had difficulty in matching my Wii remote movements. I did try playing the disc for a couple of more days to see if it would grow on me -instead my frustration grew. Save yourself money and stay well clear of this turkey of a disc.
