Guess I should mention the other episode... March 17, 2004 Yes I got a bit 'carried away' (season 2 isn't that?) and waffled on about 'The Great Outdoors' and neglected the other episode on this Video, 'The Heat is On'. So here's what I think; a good episode, close to great, that has a nice pace about it and some good lines. This is one of the episodes that you could just watch regardless of having read the books or seen any of the episodes on TV. It plays out well and manages to keep you interested to the end, an important ingredient for any TV show. It has an amusing feud between Miss Hardbroom and Miss Bat as well as the obvious one between Mildred and Ethel. The juice tasting scene at the end is classic Worst Witch. It's not 'The Great Outdoors' but it runs it very close.
Got me through my GCSE's March 17, 2004 This video features one of my favourite episodes from the first series, 'The Great Outdoors'. The cast filmed this in Canada along with an episode later in the series and yes, the scenary is lovely but the jokes and in-jokes are what make it a top episode. Millie and her friends...and Ethel and Druscilla...go camping with Ms Drill and Miss Hardbroom. (Whoever's idea it was to have the bonnet HB wears in this episode is a genius) It's supposed to be a no-magic trip but predictably this is not the case. Any scene with Kate Duchene as Miss Hardbroom is always a joy to watch and she gets some killer lines that are delivered perfectly. Ms Drill explaining to Miss Hardbroom about the 'silent running' oriental martial art is a perfect example of scene that can repeatedly make you laugh. I never get bored of it! Shame it's not on DVD Region 2...hint hint...
A really great video, you can watch again and again. January 12, 2002 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
This video was really great! It was quite funny and is perfect for fans of the series. However if you prefere to watch Mildred Hubble almost blowing up the school with magical mistakes then this IS NOT the title for you. There wasn't really much magic in the until near the end. And fans of techno-whizz Ruby Cherytree will be dissapointed, she has hardly any appearances, and I don't think she has any lines. In fact I didn't see her after the first 30 seconds of "The Great Outdoors." However it is still a great video, I'd rate "The Heat is On" as the best of the two episodes.
