A great action film from the same school as die hard June 19, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The first time I saw this film was in germany as a teenager, I was sitting around bored stiff and looking for something to do, so I thought I'd look through mydads video collection and found "eye of the tiger" and I immediately liked the look of the cover ,(gary busey and a kickass monster truck- old VHS cover btw) and when you're around 14 it doesnt really matter what the films plot is as long as it has a good cover its going to jump into your vcr.
Anyway, I sat down to watch the film and was immediately enthralled, ok so it wasnt the most original film i'd seen (but like i said back then I didnt care).
The basic plot was, Man goes to prison for a crime he didnt commit, gets out and is then hounded by the townsfolk who put him in jail in the first place, but in eye of the tiger instead of taking revenge just on the one guy whose wronged him, gary buseys character takes it out on the whole town, resulting in mass carnage, explosions and violence mostly all courtesy of a monster truck with guns and rocket launchers mounted on it frame work.
The best part of the film is the action sequences, everything is over the top and suitably massive, and although gary busey isnt the best character actor he does play the anti-hero pretty dam well.
basically its a great film, very similar in style and characters to die-hard, one for the action fans.
if you're looking for substance watch somthing else, because this is just action, action, action
Rocky 3- Brilliant!!!! July 20, 2002 4 out of 6 found this review helpful
This is definately the best of all 5 Rocky films, and is sheer class from start to finish! From the beginning, we see Rocky "The Italian Stallion" Balboa taking on Thunderlips (WWF's Hulk Hogan) in an exhibition match that is a mixture of Wrestling and Streetfighting. This is funny for seeing Rocky prancing around the ring and throwing a few light jabs before realising Thunderlips wants to give the crowd some real entertainment. Not one to disappoint, Rocky rips off his gloves and the fun starts right here! Thunderlips brings a few of his WWF moves to the screen (throwing Rocky into the crowd) and Rocky shows us a few of those heavy barefist punches that we love to see! Don't worry, its all for charity! Soon after we see the emergence of a new fighter, in Clubber Lang (Mr T to you) who see's Rocky as a "fool" and wants a piece of him and the belt around his waist. Rocky accepts the challenge, and is quickly beaten and shamed due to his overconfidence and lack of training. You can guess what happens next- he's forced to step back into the ring to try and regain his belt. Remember Apollo Creed (Carl Weathers)? He joins up with Rocky and gives him training so the true champ can win the rematch! Brilliant! What follows is nothing less than what we have come to expect from the Rocky series. The training scenes are fast moving and breath-taking as Rocky is put through a brutal training regime so he can take on Clubber. In the ring, the slow-mo punch scenes are superb, the fighting is well choreographed and Rocky is back on top form and with a blossoming friendship formed with Apollo.... All of the actors are on top form, with Apollo and Rocky looking in stunning shape, while Adrian (Talia Shire) is typically irritating and dull as the champs put-upon wife. The ending is predictable (but when isn't it?) but this is still a brilliant film, and one for all fans and those who weren't convinced by Rocky 1+2! Set the video, get the lads round and have a few beers because this is one to watch again and again!
I pity the fool who doesn't buy this video June 6, 2000 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
The rocky saga peaks with this emotional rollercoaster of a flick. With Stallone behind the camera for the second time, he skilfully captures the raw emotion and violence of the boxing world. The story line is a simple one, with rockys belt being taken away by Clubber Lang only for him to regain it through an arduous training schedule. The performances throughout are outstanding, with Carl Weathers stealing the show. If you only buy one video this year- buy Private Dancer, if you buy two, get Rocky 3.
The last great fight March 31, 2000 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Rocky III built on the legend of southpaw Rocky Balboa while also working on bringing in the people around him. The unfortunate death of Mickey causes Rocky to look for help in the one man who was twice his foe, Apollo Creed. The second directorial outing for Stallone, this moves along at a steady pace and introduces one of Rocky's greatest opponents, Clubber Lang (Mr-T) who will not stop even after the Italian Stallion is on the canvas. Look out for a humourous cameo from Hulk Hogan also. From this point onwards, the Rocky series can only go downhill. Just try to outclass this.
