2 out of 5 stars Oh dear!   August 23, 2008
Installed the repeller last week with high hopes of stopping our garden from being the toilet for our neighbours cats. As of yesterday there appeared to be fewer tell tale "signs"! of cats having visited so I was feeling very happy with my purchase. Unfortunately this morning I spotted a cat basking in the sun in the middle of the lawn well within the range of the repeller which makes me think that the abscence of "signs" (!) may sadly be short lived.

3 out of 5 stars Seems useful, but hasn't solved the problem fully yet.   August 19, 2008
I installed this product 5 weeks ago, after checking with the manufacturer (STV Pest Control) whether the "Cat Repeller" could be expected to work against dogs and foxes. Frankly, I'm not an expert on animal poo, and didn't know what kind of animal was fouling my front garden, typically 5 times per week. They said it should work, and that the more expensive "Cat, Dog & Fox Repeller" simply has a higher power output to cover a larger area.

So does it work? During the 5 weeks since installation I've seen only one cat hang around in my garden for any length of time, and that was on one occasion only. The rest have passed through quickly, at some distance from the device.

In fact, after two weeks I thought the fouling problem was completely solved; but, as one of my kids pointed out, my DOG-owning neighbours were away on holiday. The animal fouled my garden within 12 hours of the neighbours' return 10 days ago, but only once since then -- which is a welcome improvement, if it continues. Perhaps their dog is still learning and will eventually stop visiting altogether. Fingers crossed for now.

Additional comment:

Several reviewers of the Cat Repeller have reported that "their" cats seem happy to settle down near the device. The manufacturers of a similar product (not the one under review) state on their website that this is not unusual behaviour. Apparently these cats are trying to intimidate the device and make it go away. It takes them a while to learn that they can't win the battle... so be patient -- the instructions supplied with the Big Cheese Cat Repeller clearly state that it may take up to 28 days to break the animals' habit in the case of persistent fouling.

1 out of 5 stars Don't buy this - it doesn't scare cats   August 8, 2008

I set up this piece of rubbish in my back garden, near where the neighbours cats like to come and defecate. I went into the kitchen this morning and looked out to find a noxious little cat sitting on my path no more than one and a half metres from the machine, as though it was enjoying the sound. I went out and turned the garden hose on the little beast and then I pressed the test button to check that it was functioning. The red LED was on and it shrieked at me as it is supposed to do. However, when I pulled out the stake to reposition it nearer the point of entry for the cats I found I got cat faeces all over the soles of my shoes, so it had obviously done its business near the alleged cat scarer! The red LED was illuminated when I approached the machine as normal and when I pressed the test button it made a horrible noise, but I think cats like it! Don't waste your money on the piece of useless rubbish. Buy an air gun instead. I notice the's nowhere to leave feedback fior this seller, so obviously they know it's no good.

1 out of 5 stars Didn't work   August 4, 2008

I got this a couple of days ago, seems good in theory but it's had no effect- in fact a cat dumped right next to it over the weekend, I guess some cats have just got better hearing than others, i appear to live next door to a deaf one.

1 out of 5 stars How disappointing   July 28, 2008

Having read the mostly rave reviews, I was really excited when the cat repeller arrived. This was going to be the perfect way to keep the neighbours' cats (three of them) from pooing in the garden. So I set it up and put it in our small garden free of obstructions and waited....

To my amazement, I was greeted later that evening to the sight of all three cats sitting in the garden staring into the house. And this has never happened before. Was my cat repeller attracting cats???

Unfortunately, after a couple of weeks, I am stll clearing up cat poo. I can hear the repeller working (in fact everyone can but no-one complains it is uncomfortable). So, do I have a faulty device?

All I can say is that this device hasn't worked for me. But, given that I seem to be in the minority here, I would still recommend you try it. I am even tempted to get another one to see if the first one is faulty! See how desperate I am for this thing to work!!
